Mr Thomas Johnson - The Mandate and Work of the Iran-United States Claims Tribunal

Mr. Johnson is a member of the Iran-United States Claims Tribunal in The Hague and a lecturer-in-law at the Columbia Law School.  Prior to his appointment to the IUSCT in 2012, he was a partner in the law firm of Covington & Burling LLP, where his practice focused on arbitrations between States and foreign investors and land and maritime boundary disputes.  From 2002 until 2009, Mr. Johnson was a member of the Panel of Arbitrators of the World Bank's International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes ("ICSID"), appointed by the United States.  He earned both his bachelor's and law degrees at Stanford and began his legal career at the State Department Legal Adviser's Office.
