Building support: Colombia’s Vice Minister of Multilateral Affairs Mauricio Jaramillo visits ICC
On 29 April 2025, the Vice Minister of Multilateral Affairs of the Republic of Colombia, His Excellency Mauricio Jaramillo Jassir, visited the International Criminal Court and met the President of the Court, Judge Tomoko Akane, as well as Registrar Osvaldo Zavala Giler and Deputy Prosecutor Mame Mandiaye Niang.
President Akane expressed the ICC’s sincere appreciation for Colombia's continued support and their commitment to the international rule of law and the values enshrined in the Rome Statute. The President reiterated the Court’s desire to build and deepen it’s mutually beneficial and cooperative engagements with Colombia and discussed concrete and tangible ways in which cooperation can be enhanced, bearing in mind the paramount importance of the principle of complementarity.
Deputy Prosecutor Niang underlined the ongoing commitment of the Office of the Prosecutor to deepen the mutual learning and collaboration with Colombian authorities within the framework of the OTP-Colombia Cooperation Agreement signed in 2021. Noting today would also mark the signing of a new workplan for 2025-2026 with the Special Jurisdiction for Peace to further strengthen collaboration, the Deputy-Prosecutor underlined the continued priority of this cooperation for the Office and emphasized Colombia's position of a landmark example of the potential of positive complementarity.
During the visit, authorities reaffirmed the joint commitment of Colombia and the Court to continue to work together to strengthen cooperation in key areas, such as voluntary cooperation agreements, sharing good practices with national justice mechanisms, freezing of assets and victims' reparations.
This visit follows the official mission of Registrar Zavala Giler to Colombia from 12 to 14 November 2024.
Colombia ratified the Rome Statute on 5 August 2002. The treaty entered into force in November 2002.

El 29 de abril de 2025 el Viceministro de Asuntos Multilaterales de la República de Colombia, Su Excelencia Sr. Mauricio Jaramillo Jassir, visitó la Corte Penal Internacional y se reunió con la Presidenta de la Corte, Jueza Tomoko Akane, así como el Secretario Osvaldo Zavala Giler y el Fiscal Adjunto Mame Mandiaye Niang.
La Presidenta Akane expresó el sincero agradecimiento de la CPI hacia Colombia por su apoyo continuo y su compromiso con el estado de derecho internacional y los valores consagrados en el Estatuto de Roma. La Presidenta reiteró el deseo de la Corte de construir y profundizar relaciones de beneficio mutuo y cooperación con Colombia, y discutió formas concretas y tangibles en las que se puede mejorar la cooperación, teniendo en cuenta la importancia fundamental del principio de complementariedad.
El Fiscal Adjunto Niang subrayó el compromiso permanente de la Fiscalía de profundizar el aprendizaje mutuo y la colaboración con las autoridades colombianas en el marco del Acuerdo de Cooperación entre la Fiscalía y Colombia firmado en 2021. Al señalar que hoy también se firmaría un nuevo plan de trabajo para 2025-2026 con la Jurisdicción Especial para la Paz para fortalecer aún más la colaboración, el Fiscal Adjunto subrayó la continua prioridad de esta cooperación para la Fiscalía y enfatizó la posición de Colombia como un ejemplo emblemático del potencial de la complementariedad positiva.
Durante la visita, las autoridades reafirmaron el compromiso común de Colombia y la Corte a seguir trabajando juntas para fortalecer la cooperación en áreas clave, tal como los acuerdos voluntarios de cooperación, el intercambio de buenas prácticas con mecanismos de justicia nacionales, la congelación de activos y la reparación de víctimas.
Esta visita se produce luego de la misión oficial del Secretario Zavala Giler a Colombia del 12 al 14 de noviembre de 2024.
Colombia ratificó el Estatuto de Roma el 5 de agosto de 2002. El tratado entró en vigor para el país en noviembre de 2002.
