Conference to mark the ICC’s 20th anniversary on 1 July 2022
The International Criminal Court (ICC) is pleased to announce the conference “International Criminal Court at 20: Reflections on the Past, Present and the Future”, taking place on Friday, 1 July 2022, at the World Forum in The Hague, the Netherlands. The conference will be webcast live in English, French and Spanish on the ICC’s YouTube channel.
The conference will be an occasion to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the International Criminal Court as one of the permanent pillars of the international legal system. The entry into force, on 1 July 2002, of the ICC’s founding treaty, the Rome Statute, enabled the commencement of the Court’s operations under its mandate aimed at ensuring accountability for the gravest crimes under international law, contributing to their prevention, and providing justice to victims.
The conference will start with a keynote speech by the Chair of Rome Conference and first ICC President, H.E. Mr. Philippe Kirsch, followed by three substantive panels on various aspects on the Court's work. Speakers will include the President, Prosecutor and Registrar of the ICC, the President of the Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute, the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the ICC’s Trust Fund for Victims, the President of the International Criminal Court Bar Association, as well leading academics, civil society experts and practitioners.
The conference will allow for in-depth discussions on the different aspects of the Court’s concrete operations, from the earliest reports of alleged crimes to final judgments and the reparation of victims. It will also be an occasion for reflections on how well the ICC has met expectations, as well as what main trends can be discerned for the further development of the international criminal justice system going forward.
While in-person participation at the conference is by invitation only, virtual attendance is open to all interested persons.

La Corte Penal Internacional (CPI) se complace en anunciar la conferencia “La Corte Penal Internacional a sus 20 años: Reflexiones sobre el pasado, el presente y el futuro”, que tendrá lugar el viernes 1 de julio de 2022 en el World Forum de La Haya, Países Bajos. La conferencia se transmitirá en vivo en inglés, francés y español en el canal de Youtube de la CPI.
La conferencia será una ocasión para celebrar el 20.º aniversario de la Corte Penal Internacional como uno de los pilares permanentes del sistema legal internacional. La entrada en vigor, el 1 de julio de 2002, del tratado fundacional de la CPI, el Estatuto de Roma, permitió el inicio de las operaciones de la Corte bajo su mandato con el fin de asegurar la rendición de cuentas por los crímenes más graves bajo el derecho internacional, contribuir a su prevención y brindar justicia a las víctimas.
El programa de la conferencia comenzará con la conferencia magistral impartida por el Presidente de la Conferencia de Roma y primer Presidente de la CPI, Sr. Philippe Kirsch, seguido de tres paneles de discusión sobre varios aspectos del trabajo de la Corte. Entre los oradores se encuentran el Presidente, el Fiscal y el Secretario de la CPI, laPresidenta de la Asamblea de los Estados Partes del Estatuto de Roma, la Presidenta de la Junta Directiva del Fondo Fiduciario para las Víctimas de la CPI, la Presidenta del Colegio de Abogados de la Corte Penal Internacional , así como destacados académicos y profesionales expertos.
El evento tiene por objetivo profundizar en los diferentes aspectos del funcionamiento concreto de la Corte, desde los primeros informes de presuntos delitos hasta las sentencias definitivas y la reparación de las víctimas. También será una ocasión para reflexionar sobre qué tan bien la CPI ha cumplido con las expectativas, así como qué tendencias principales se pueden discernir para el desarrollo futuro del sistema de justicia penal internacional en el futuro.
Si bien la participación en persona en la conferencia es solo por invitación, la asistencia virtual está abierta a todas aquellas personas interesadas.
