Professor Liesbeth Zegveld: "Frans Van Anraat: a Dutch Reparations Case on International Crimes in Iraq"

Professor Liesbeth Zegveld currently holds the 'War Reparations' chair at the University of Amsterdam.  Prior to this, she was Professor of International Humanitarian Law, in particular the Rights of Women and Children in Armed Conflict, at Leiden University.

Liesbeth is also a partner at Prakken d'Oliveira Human Rights Lawyers in Amsterdam. As head of the firm's international law & human rights department, she has represented victims in a number of high profile cases. In 2015, she won a case for compensation on behalf of a number of Indonesian widows, on account of the execution of their husbands by Dutch military in the post-colonial conflict in 1945-1949. She has also successfully represented victims before the Dutch Supreme Court and the ECHR.  She has also assisted Kurds and other victims who were attacked with chemical weapons in Iraq and Iran in the 1980s and, in 2010, founded the Nuhanovic Foundation, to assist war victims who seek access to justice.
