Ms. Courtney Erwin: “International crimes and their relevance to education”

Courtney Erwin is the Legal Program Manager at Education Above All (EAA), an independent non-governmental organisation established by Her Highness Sheikha Moza Bint Nasser of Qatar, UNESCO Special Envoy for Basic and Higher Education. A policy, research, and advocacy organisation, EAA is concerned with the protection of education during insecurity and armed conflict. Ms. Erwin has worked on, written about, and presented on international law as it relates to education, minority communities, religious freedom, Islamic legal reform, and rule of law efforts in Muslim-majority, conflict-affected areas. She has degrees in international affairs, Islamic law, and international law. She will share the findings of EAA’s recent research mission to the Court focusing on the Lubanga trial, and offer suggestions for how these findings might inform and benefit future Court processes.
