Mrs. Candice Alihusain and Prof. Hope May: "Bertha von Suttner: Pursuing Peace, Seeking Justice and Serving Humanity"

Ms Candice Alihusain is a Jurist currently working as a legal information specialist in the Peace Palace Library. She obtained her master’s degree in Public International Law from Leiden University. At the Peace Palace Library she first learnt about Bertha von Suttner which subsequently led her, together with Prof. Hope May, to create the Bertha von Suttner project to promote and bring awareness to the life, ideas and visions of Bertha von Suttner as one of the first female activists for peace and justice.

Prof. Hope May is a philosopher and lawyer who is currently a Professor of Philosophy at Central Michigan University, where she directs its Center for Professional and Personal Ethics.  She is involved in the importance of public education to the "Peace Through Law" movement, which includes educational activities that educate public audiences about the history of International Law, such as A Grotian Moment (celebrating the 10 year anniversary of the International Criminal Court), Pro Concordia Labor ("For Peace I Work"), The Bertha von Suttner Project, and Piece of the Palace (celebrating the Centenary of the Peace Palace). Prof. May has been a Visiting Professional in the Office of the Prosecutor of the ICC. She is also a member of the Board of Directors of the International Criminal Court Student Network, is on the Board of Advisors of the ICC Moot Court Competition and is on the Council of Advisors of the Global Institute of the Prevention of Aggression.
