Mr. Mischa Wladimiroff: “International criminal justice from the perspective of the first defence counsel at the ICTY”

Mischa Wladimiroff is a partner at Wladimiroff Advocaten, a Hague-based defence law firm specialising in white-collar crime and administrative penal sanctions, and one of the Netherlands' top defence counsel. A graduate of Leiden University in civil, criminal and administrative law, Mr. Wladimiroff was admitted to the Bar in 1972. He is an internationally recognised expert on humanitarian law, served as defence counsel for Duško Tadić, the first indictee at the ICTY, and has subsequently acted as lead counsel or been involved as amicus curiae in numerous cases before international tribunals, including the Slobodan Milošević and Charles Taylor cases. He regularly lectures on international prosecution, was a professor of economic criminal law at Utrecht University and an active member of the faculty of the Arusha School on International Law and Human Rights. He is an honorary member of the European Criminal Bar Association as well as a member of the International Bar Association, the International Criminal Bar and various professional organisations in the Netherlands.​
