Major General Patrick C. Cammaert has served since 1968 with the Royal Netherlands Marine Corps in a variety of functions in the Netherlands and abroad. In his command appointments he was amongst others Commander of a Joint Netherlands Task Force for Special Operations in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Commander of the Multi National Stand-by Forces High Readiness Brigade for UN Operations in Denmark.  

His experience with the UN started in 1992 in Cambodia as battalion Commander. Next was in 1995 as Assistant Chief of Staff Coordinator of the Multi National Brigade of the Rapid Reaction Forces of the UN mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina.  

In 2000 he was appointed as Force Commander of the UN Mission in Ethiopia and Eritrea (UNMEE). Between 2003 and 2005 General Cammaert was the Military Adviser to the Department of Peacekeeping Operations of the UN (DPKO) in New York. 

From 02/2005 to 02/2007 he has served as General Officer Commanding the Eastern Division in the United Nations Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the first UN Division in history.  

During his career General Cammaert followed the Higher Command and Staff College and the Top Management Course at the Army War College in The Hague.
