Prof. Gerhard Werle is a professor of German and International Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure and Modern Legal History at Humboldt-Universität in Berlin. In 2006, he was appointed Extraordinary Professor at the University of the Western Cape (Cape Town, South Africa), where he is also the Director of the South African-German Centre for Transnational Criminal Justice. Between 1999 and 2001, he was a member of the working group on the German Code of Crimes against International Law. He has published widely and in various languages on international criminal law, transitional justice, and modern legal history. Most notably, he is the author of the textbook Principles of International Criminal Law, which has been published in German, Chinese, English, Italian, Russian and Spanish.
