University of Guadalajara (Mexico) wins 11th ICC Moot Court Competition, Spanish version
Today, 31 May 2024, the University of Guadalajara (Mexico) won the final round of the 11th edition of the International Criminal Court (ICC) Moot Court Competition, Spanish version, held in ICC Courtroom I in The Hague (Netherlands). The University of Cádiz (Spain) and the University of Buenos Aires (Argentina) won, respectively, second and third places. The award for the Best Speaker went to Francisco Javier Prieto González of the University of Guadalajara.
On the judge's bench for this competition were ICC Vice President Judge Luz del Carmen Ibáñez Carranza, presiding judge on the competition, Alejandro Kiss, ICC Legal Officer in Chambers, and Merixtell Regue, Counsel at the ICC Office of the Prosecutor.
Members of the winning team are Maria Fernanda López Gutiérrez, Josué Jauregui Ganoa, Francisco Javier Prieto González, and Karla Ruesga Solano. The teams competed on a fictitious case, presenting oral arguments in the roles of the Office of the Prosecutor, the Defence and Legal Representatives of Victims, which were web-streamed live on the Court's website and Facebook page.
The 11th edition of the Spanish version of the ICC Moot Court Competition takes place as part of the annual Iberoamerican Week of International Justice and Human Rights, held in The Hague, and is organised by the Ibero-American Institute for Peace, Human Rights and International Justice (IIH), with the institutional support of the International Criminal Court. Top students of 13 universities of 7 countries participated in the preliminary stage of this year's ICC Moot Court Competition.
In the context of its Academic Programme, the ICC supports the organisation of ICC Moot Court Competitions in Chinese, English, French and Spanish, with a view to also support an Arabic version in the future. These initiatives play a critical role in galvanising interest in the Court's work with academic communities as well as in enhancing promotion and respect for international criminal law.

Hoy, el 31 de mayo de 2024, la Universidad de Guadalajara (México) fue proclamada vencedora en la final del Concurso de Simulación Judicial ante la Corte Penal Internacional (CPI), edición en español, celebrada en la Sala de Audiencias I de la CPI en La Haya, Países Bajos. La Universidad de Cádiz (España) obtuvo el segundo lugar y la Universidad de Buenos Aires (Argentina) el tercero. Francisco Javier Prieto González de la Universidad de Guadalajara recibió el premio de mejor orador.
La ronda final tuvo lugar frente a un Tribunal compuesto por la magistrada Luz del Carmen Ibáñez Carranza, Jueza de la CPI y jueza presidente del concurso, Alejandro Kiss, Asesor Jurídico de la Salas de la CPI y Merixtell Regue, Abogada Litigante de la Oficina de la Fiscalía de la CPI.
El equipo ganador está integrado por Maria Fernanda López Gutiérrez, Josué Jauregui Ganoa, Francisco Javier Prieto González, y Karla Ruesga Solano. Los equipos finalistas compitieron en un caso ficticio, desempeñando los roles de la Fiscalía, la Representación legal de las víctimas, y la Defensa, presentando sus argumentos orales en una audiencia transmitida en directo por la página web de la Corte, y de su cuenta de Facebook.
La undécima edición del Concurso CPI de Simulación Judicial en español se celebró en el marco de la Semana Iberoamericana de Justicia Internacional y los Derechos Humanos, y está organizada por el Instituto Iberoamericano para la Paz, los Derechos Humanos y la Justicia Internacional (IIH), con el apoyo institucional de la Corte Penal Internacional. Estudiantes de 13 universidades de 7 países diferentes han participado en las fases preliminares de este Concurso.
Como parte de su programa académico, la Corte apoya la organización de los concursos de simulación judicial en inglés, español, francés y chino; en el futuro también espera ofrecer su respaldo a una versión en árabe. Estas iniciativas ofrecen una oportunidad única para mantener el interés de las comunidades académicas sobre la labor de la Corte, y permiten promover el conocimiento de, y el respeto por, la justicia penal internacional.
