The Registrar signs a memorandum of understanding regulating the establishment and functioning of the Court on the territory of the Central African Republic

Today 18 October 2007, the Registrar of the International Criminal Court, Mr Bruno Cathala, who is on mission in Bangui, signed a memorandum of understanding between the Central African Republic and the International Criminal Court regulating the establishment and functioning of the Court on the territory of the Central African Republic, with the Minister of Justice, Mr Thierry Maleyombo, in the presence of the Prime Minister, Mr Elie Doté.

The Registrar recalled “the importance of cooperation between national justice and international criminal justice”.

The agreement paves the way for effective cooperation between the Court and the Government of the Central African Republic. It facilitates the proper functioning of the Court, in particular with regard to its needs in the areas of investigations, victim and witness protection, safety and security, and logistical support for its operations.
