ICC Prosecutor Karim A.A. Khan KC launches the Office of the Prosecutor Annual Report 2023 “Delivering Better Together”

I am pleased to announce the publication of the 2023 edition of the Office of the Prosecutor Annual Report: “Delivering Better Together” (“the Report”). The Report takes a holistic view of the Office’s activities, providing an insight into the milestones achieved in the course of the past year and our efforts to continually improve the ability of the Office to deliver on its mandate.

A considerable part of our work remains unreported and unseen by the majority of our stakeholders due to its confidential nature. Many are also unaware of the different thematic areas on which the Office works, the obstacles it faces, or the initiatives and process of change we are implementing in order to fulfil our objectives, as set out in the Strategic Plan for 2023-2025. It is my sincere hope that this Annual Report will be of assistance in highlighting where we have been able to take steps forward, why these steps matter, and where we continue to need to work to improve things further.

In addition to the investigative and prosecutorial work of the Office and the judicial progress in our cases in the courtroom, our Office is taking steps towards improving its capacity in key thematic priorities such as gender-based crimes and crimes against and affecting children, as well as towards refining the way in which we handle and process all kinds of information through the use of advanced technology. We have also amplified and promoted engagement and cooperation with all stakeholders, including national authorities, international organisations, civil society and affected communities, pursuant to our conviction that the road to justice requires combined efforts with all members of the international community. Improving workplace culture, empowering colleagues to contribute to positive change, and growing and diversifying the expertise and viewpoints in the Office have also been among my core priorities throughout 2023.

These Annual Reports are an important part of meeting our objective to be transparent with all stakeholders of the Office, especially the victims who we seek to serve through our work. We hope that through this year’s Annual Report, you, the readers, can gain a more comprehensive sense of the multifaceted work my colleagues and I undertake on a daily basis, whether inside or outside the courtroom. Of course we can always improve products such as these so your feedback and input on the Report remain very welcome.

While there is still much work to be done to fully deliver for the communities who look to us, I remain convinced that we can and will deliver better when working together.
