Pre Trial Chamber I Hearing on the Prosecutor's request under article 56

Situation: Democratic Republic of the Congo

On 19  April 2005, Pre Trial Chamber I assigned to the situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo was informed by the Prosecutor, under article 56 of the Rome Statute, that « an investigation presented a unique opportunity to take testimony or a statement from a witness or to examine, collect or test evidence, which may not be available subsequently for the purposes of a trial. »

Upon  the request of the Prosecutor, Pre Trial Chamber I held a consultation hearing with the Prosecutor, pursuant to Rule 114 of Rules of Procedure and Evidence in order to determine appropriate measures regarding the request of the Prosecutor. The hearing took place on Thursday 21 April at  3:30,  in closed session. The decision shall be made on an expedited basis.
