Nomination of the Registrar – Two candidates were identified

During the second resumption of the first session of the Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute of the Court (ASP), convening in New-York from 21 to 23 April, the State Parties shall present any recommendations concerning the election of the Registrar.

By a letter dated 15 April 2003, addressed to the President of the ASP, the President of the Court informed the States Parties that he has identified “two candidates who fully meet the requirements set by the Court They are Mr. Bruno Cathala (France) and Mr. Bert Maan (Netherlands)” following a widely publicized vacancy notice. During their next plenary session, and according to Article 43 (4) of the Statute, “the Judges shall elect the Registrar by an absolute majority by secret ballot, taking into account any recommendation by the Assembly of States Parties.” The Registrar holds office for a term of 5 years, shall be eligible for re-election once, and shall serve on full-time basis.
