Closing Statements in the Gicheru trial: Practical information

The closing statements in the case The Prosecutor v. Paul Gicheru are scheduled to take place on 27 June 2022 at 9:30 (The Hague time) at the seat of the International Criminal Court (“ICC” or the “Court”) in The Hague, The Netherlands.

Statements will be made by the Office of the Prosecutor followed by the Defence for Mr Gicheru, before Judge Miatta Maria Samba of ICC Trial Chamber III. Each party will be accorded one hour for their statement. Mr Gicheru will attend the hearing via video technology.

The trial in this case opened on 15 February 2022 before Trial Chamber III. The accused plead not-guilty to the all charges. 8 witnesses have testified for the prosecution, the last one finished testifying on 24 March 2022. The Office of the Prosecutor completed its presentation of evidence on 29 March 2022. The Defence announced on 25 April 2022 that it will not present any evidence.

Attending the hearing:

Attendees must present a valid passport or valid ID with a photo at the main entrance of the Court (at: Oude Waalsdorperweg 10, 2597 AK The Hague).

  • Journalists wishing to cover the hearing can request accreditation via email to: [email protected] before Friday 24 June 2022 at 16:00. All journalists must present a valid press card, and a valid passport or valid ID with a photo, at the main entrance of the Court (at: Oude Waalsdorperweg 10, 2597 AK The Hague).

Individuals who have not received a confirmation in advance of the hearing will not be granted access to the building.
