Passing of Judge Mohamed Shahabuddeen

It is with great sorrow that the International Criminal Court (ICC) learnt about the passing of Judge Mohamed Shahabuddeen (Guyana) on 17 February 2018. 

Judge Shahabuddeen was elected for a nine-year term as an ICC judge by the Assembly of States Parties in January 2009, however he never assumed his functions at the Court as he resigned on 16 February 2009.

Judge Mohamed Shahabuddeen made important contributions to international law during his career, inter alia serving as a judge of the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia.

The Court presents its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Judge Shahabuddeen in this time of sorrow.
