Blé Goudé case: Confirmation of charges hearing postponed to 22 September 2014

Today, 11 July 2014, Pre-Trial Chamber I of the International Criminal Court (ICC) decided to postpone the commencement of the confirmation hearing in the case The Prosecutor v. Charles Blé Goudé to 22 September 2014, in order to enable the parties to complete the disclosure of evidence prior to the hearing. The hearing was previously scheduled to commence on 18 August 2014.

The Chamber granted the Prosecutor until 22 August 2014 to complete disclosure of the evidence, including additional new evidence, on which she intends to rely at the confirmation of charges hearing as well as to file the Document Containing the Charges. The Defence shall complete the disclosure of its evidence, for the purpose of this hearing, by 5 September 2014.

Background: On 27 March 2014, Charles Blé Goudé made his first appearance before the ICC and Single Judge Silvia Fernández de Gurmendi had initially set the date of the beginning of the confirmation of charges hearing for 18 August 2014.

On 22 March 2014, Charles Blé Goudé was surrendered to the ICC by the national authorities of Côte d´Ivoire on the basis of a warrant of arrest issued by ICC judges on 21 December 2011 and unsealed on 30 September 2013.

Charles Blé Goudé, national of Côte d’Ivoire, 42 years of age, allegedly bears individual criminal responsibility, as indirect co-perpetrator, for four counts of crimes against humanity, namely murder, rape and other forms of sexual violence, persecution, and other inhuman acts, allegedly committed in the territory of Côte d’Ivoire between 16 December 2010 and 12 April 2011.
