Calendar and agenda for the forthcoming hearings for the preparation of the trial of Thomas Lubanga Dyilo

Situation: Democratic Republic of the Congo

On 25 September 2007, the judges of the Trial Chamber I fixed a detailed agenda for the hearing on Monday 1st October for the Lubanga case. This status conference will commence at 9h30 and may extend into 2 October 2007.

The judges of Trial Chamber I issued, on 5 September 2007, an order setting out the new timetable and agenda for the filing of submissions and hearings on issues which require early determination in the preparation for the trial of Thomas Lubanga Dyilo.

The timetable and agenda for the forthcoming hearings are set out as follows:

  • 1st October 2007, at 09.30 a.m. CEM:
    • The date of the trial
    • The languages to be used in the proceedings
    • The disclosure of the evidence the prosecution seek to rely on
    • The e-Court protocol
    • The procedures to be adopted for ex parte proceedings
    • The implementation of the reporting system between the Registrar and the Trial Chamber, regarding the application for participation of victims in the proceedings (Rule 89 and Regulation of the Court 86(5))
              • *30, 31 October, 1 and 2 November, at 10.00 a.m. CEM:
                • The role of victims in the proceedings leading up to, and during, the trial
                • The procedures to be adopted for instructing expert witnesses
                • The approach to be adopted to witness familiarisation and witness proofing

                          * Please note that on the 9 October,  the hearing timetable was updated as follow:
                          29 October, 02.00 pm
                          30 and 31 October, 10.00 am

                          • 20 November 2007, at 10.00 a.m. CEM:
                            • The status before the Trial Chamber of the evidence heard by the Pre-Trial Chamber
                            • The status of the decisions of the Pre-Trial Chamber in trial proceedings
                            • The manner in which evidence shall be submitted subject to Article 64(8)(b) of the Rome Statute and Rule 140 of the Rules of Procedure and Evidence

                                      The courtroom proceedings can be followed on the ICC website: www.icc-cpi.int.  Please note that there will be a 30-minutes delay in transmission of the public hearing.

                                      The International Criminal Court is an independent, permanent court that investigates and prosecutes persons accused of the most serious crimes of concern to the international community: genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes. The Court is currently investigating four situations - northern Uganda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Darfur (Sudan) and the Central African Republic.
