To continue the momentum gained from the first two Joint ICC/African Union seminars, the specific objective of the third joint ICC/African Union seminar was to reinforce ICC-African Union dialogue. Participants included the African Union's Legal Counsel and staff of the African Union Commission, as well as Ambassadors and legal advisors from the Permanent Missions of African Union member States. Discussions touched on various issues, including ICC judicial processes, evidence collection and investigations, witness protection, cooperation and complementarity. The event was made possible thanks to organizational support from the African Union and generous financial support of the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie, the European Commission and Austria.

The ICC’s High-Level Regional Cooperation Seminars aim to enhance cooperation with the Court by increasing understanding about the ICC’s cooperation regime amongst the invitees; promoting dialogue and efforts towards universality of the Rome Statute; and reinforcing high-level and technical-level contacts and partnerships amongst the Court and key interlocutors. Target audiences include Heads of State, Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Justice, and senior officials in charge of operational issues related to the ICC and/or international judicial assistance in criminal matters.
