December 2018: Consultation Meeting on the new Registry’s proposal for the Court’s Legal Aid Policy

Image

The Registry has prepared a draft legal aid policy that aims to take stock of all the lessons learned during the more than a decade that our legal aid scheme has been implemented. We have been attentive to benefit of all the comments that users, managers and experts have been providing over the years.

This event follows from the request of the Assembly of States Parties at its fifteenth session that the Court reassesses the functioning of the legal aid system and present, as appropriate, proposals for adjustments to the legal aid remuneration policy.

We believe that we have a proposal of Legal Aid Policy that is much simpler in its wording and its functioning, more attentive to the needs of the Court's cases and fairer with the legal aid system users, while meeting the goal set by the States Parties of not increasing the total cost of this system.

For this Meeting, once more a selected group of stakeholder will have the opportunity to share their opinion and present further proposals in order to improve and complete the new norms to govern the legal aid system of the ICC.
