Prof. André Nollkaemper: “Responsibility to protect and complementarity”

Guest lecture:

​André Nollkaemper is Professor of Public International Law and Vice-Dean for research at the Faculty of Law of the University of Amsterdam. He is also an external advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, member of the Board of the European Society of International Law and editor-in chief of International Law in Domestic Courts. He previously served as a member of the Advisory Commission on Public International Law for the Netherlands and was counsel at Böhler Attorneys in Amsterdam. His practical experience includes cases before the European Court of Human Rights, Special Court for Sierra Leone, International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia, Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia, and consultancy for a variety of international and national organisations. Presently, he is conducting research on the interface between international and national law, post national rule-making, and shared responsibility in international law. Recent publications include System Criminality in International Law (Cambridge University Press, 2009), National Courts and the International Rule of Law (Oxford University Press, 2011) and Responsibility to Protect: From Principle to Practice (Amsterdam University Press, 2012).
