Dr. Rebekka Ehret (Switzerland) is the Chief of the Language Unit at Special Court of Sierra Leone (SCSL), Freetown, Sierra Leone since 2004. She coordinates the interpretation services required during the hearings, plenary sessions of the judges and other meetings at the SCSL.   

She advises on all language related matters and ensures the accurate, efficient, and prompt translation/interpretation by staff during court proceedings, meetings, and conferences. One significant component of her responsibilities is to write glossaries of terms and to provide guidelines for lawyers, judges and other international staff who work with interpreters. Moreover, she conducts training on intercultural awareness.  

Before joining the SCSL, Dr. Ehret was a lecturer on Applied Anthropology and the Sociology of Violence at the Fourah Bay College, Freetown (1993-2004), on Migration Studies and Intercultural Communication at Basle University (1996-2004), on Social Anthropology at the University of Heidelberg (1998-2002).  

Her educational qualifications include: Doctor of Social Anthropology and English Linguistics (University of Basle, 1998); Master of Arts of Social Anthropology and English Linguistics and Literature (University of Basle, Switzerland, 1991), and Bachelor of Arts. She has published many articles on sociology, linguistic and migration.
