Dr. Maria Nybondas: “The purpose, nature and scope of command responsibility under international criminal law”

Guest lecture:

Dr. Maria Nybondas is an independent researcher/lecturer in International Criminal Law/International Humanitarian Law. She holds an LLM from Utrecht University, a PhD from the University of Amsterdam on the subject of command responsibility, and a Masters of Political Science in Public International Law from Åbo Akademi University, Finland, her country of origin. Dr. Nybondas has worked as a Researcher at the T.M.C. Asser Institute in The Hague and as an Associate Public Affairs Officer at the ICC. In 2000, she was a law clerk with the OTP of the ICTY, involved mainly in the Kordić case. Dr. Nybondas also took part in the PrepCom for the ICC in 1999 in New York, as an assistant to the Finnish delegation. She has taught IHL in the LLM programme at the University of Groningen and is a guest lecturer at the Netherlands Defence College and the Hague Forum for Judicial Expertise. In 2010 her book ’Command Responsibility and Its Applicability to Civilian Superiors’ was published by T.M.C. Asser Press (Springer).
