Dr. Héctor Olásolo: “The triggering procedure of the International Criminal Court, procedural treatment of complementarity and the role of the Office of the Prosecutor”

Dr. Olásolo is currently a member of the Appeals Section of the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia. Until recently he has been a member of its Legal Advisory Section.  

From 1999 to 2002, he was a legal adviser of the Spanish Delegation to the Preparatory Commission of the International Criminal Court. He participated last year in the Expert Group on “Complementarity in Practice” established during the preparatory phase of the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court.   

He has recently published Corte Penal Internacional: Dónde Investigar?, a monograph analysing the triggering procedure of the International Criminal Court and the role of the Office of the Prosecutor. He has also published several articles on the International Criminal Court and other international and criminal law issues in American, Dutch and Spanish law reviews.

He obtained his Doctorate cum laude from the University of Salamanca, and his Master in Law from Columbia University Law School, where he was named Kent Scholar.
