Cases may be closed once a conviction/sentence or an acquittal becomes final [usually after appellate review], although a case involving a conviction/sentence [i.e. not an acquittal] may be reopened for revision (see article 84). However, cases may also be closed at other stages of the proceedings, for example if the charges are withdrawn due to either a lack of evidence or due to the defendant's death, or if the judges decide not to confirm the charges and not to commit the case to trial due to a lack of evidence. In the latter event, the Prosecutor can "re-open" the case based on new evidence.
