ICC Holds high-level seminar on Medical Ethics Matters in a Detention Environment

On 6 and 7 April 2017, the International Criminal Court (ICC) hosted a seminar on "Medical Ethics Matters in a Detention Environment".

The Seminar was organised at the initiative of the ICC Registry in cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the Detention Centre's independent inspecting authority.

The Seminar was attended by a diverse group of stakeholders: ICC representatives and parties and participants to the proceedings, representatives of the Dutch Ministry of Security and Justice, the International Criminal Tribunal for former Yugoslavia (ICTY), the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL), the Kosovo Specialist Chambers (KSC), and ICC and ICTY Detention Centre.

For two days, ICRC experts and two renowned external experts have shared with Seminar participants their expertise in the field of medical ethics matters in a detention environment. The participants have furthermore engaged in fruitful discussions on global ethical standards and policies.
