The ICC opens its doors to visitors on Sunday, 19 September

ICC-CPI-20100914-MA72

On Sunday, 19 September, the International Criminal Court (ICC) will open its doors to welcome visitors between 11:00 and 17:00, as part of The Hague International Day organised by the Municipality of The Hague. The ICC will also set up an information booth at the International Community Fair at the City Hall.

At the ICC, visitors can take guided tours covering multiple facets of the world’s only permanent international criminal court. In the one-hour interactive tours, ICC officials will brief visitors in a very accessible way on different responsibilities of the Court. With the support of videos and photos, visitors will learn about:

  • The ICC and its mandate, structure, judges, States Parties, and premises;
  • Investigations and how they are conducted by the Office of the Prosecutor;
  • The Detention Centre and suspects’ rights;
  • The Courtroom, as viewed from the Public Gallery; and
  • The Court’s Outreach activities to connect with communities affected by the crimes under investigation.

Information about recruitment and the Internship and Visiting Professional Programme will be also provided. ICC officers will answer visitors’ questions during the tours, which will be conducted in English.

Furthermore, the Municipality of The Hague will also host an International Community Fair at City Hall from 11:00 to 17:00 that day. The ICC and over 20 other international organisations active in the areas of peace, justice, or security are participating in this Fair, by setting up information booths on City Hall’s first floor. The Fair is an opportunity for people to speak with representatives from and learn more about the city’s international institutions and non-governmental organisations.

Registration and transportation

Though registration is not compulsory, visitors who do register in advance can visit the ICC as well as other Open Day organisations, gain free entry into the Fair (otherwise EUR 5 for adults), and use the free shuttle buses arranged by the Municipality (note that the city centre and surroundings will be otherwise closed to traffic on that day).
