Mr. Pierre Hazan

Pierre Hazan is teaching Post Conflict Justice at Geneva University and at the Graduate Institute for International Studies and Development. He has been a political advisor to Louise Arbour, the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights, and is currently working as a consultant for the Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs and as an expert for the International Committee of the Red Cross. Prior to that, Mr. Hazan was a UN correspondent in Geneva for the French newspaper Libération and the Swiss daily Le Temps. In this position, he has covered many international crises including those in Afghanistan, the Balkans, the Great Lakes region in Africa, the Ingushetia–Chechen border, the Middle East, Somalia, and the Sudan. Mr. Hazan holds a PhD in Political Science from Geneva University and a master in Strategic Studies from Aberdeen University (UK). He was a senior fellow at the United States Institute of Peace, in Washington DC (2006-2007) and a fellow at Harvard Law School (2005-2006). Mr. Hazan has published extensively on topics related to conflict and transitional justice. Among his most recent books is “Judging War, Judging History” ("Juger la guerre, juger l’histoire”) for which he received the 2008 Georges Dreyfus Prize.
