Mr. Richard Wilson

Professor Richard Wilson is currently the Gladstein Distinguished Chair of Human Rights; holds a Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Humanities and is Director of the Human Rights Institute at the University of Connecticut (US). Prof. Wilson also serves as the Chair of the Connecticut State Advisory Committee of the US Civil Rights Commission. Previous academic appointments include Professor at the School of African and Asian Studies, University of Sussex (UK) and visiting Professor at the New School for Social Research, New York (US). Prof. Wilson has published numerous commentaries on human rights, truth commissions and international criminal tribunals, and has authored or edited books including The Politics of Truth and Reconciliation in South Africa (2001), Human Rights and the ‘War on Terror’ (2005) and Humanitarianism and Suffering (2008). Prof. Wilson is in the process of writing a book with the working title Judging History in International Criminal Trials for Cambridge University Press Law Series, which is based on 80 qualitative interviews in three international criminal tribunals and a quantitative survey of former prosecutors, defense counsel and expert witnesses at the ICTY. Prof. Wilson holds a PhD in Social Anthropology and a BSc. Economics from The London School of Economics and Political Science (UK).
