ICC President and Prosecutor meet the Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs

The President and the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Judge Philippe Kirsch and Mr. Luis Moreno-Ocampo held a meeting with the Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Alexander Downer today in The Hague.

President Kirsch and Prosecutor Moreno Ocampo informed Minister Downer of the progress being made in setting up the Court and the key challenges to be faced by the Court in the coming period. Furthermore, the officials of the Court expressed their gratitute for the continous support Australia has shown to the International Criminal Court.

The ICC has acknowledged the role of Australia in supporting the development of international criminal law and, in particular, the establishment of the Court.  

Australia signed the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court on 9 December 1998 and ratified it on 1 July 2002, thus becoming the 75th State Party.
