Seventh Seminar of Counsel of the ICC & Training Program
The Hague, 11-15 May 2009
In accordance with the provisions of Regulation 121.2 of the Regulations of the Registry, the Registrar is organizing the annual Seminar of Counsel, in order to continue the permanent consultation and dealings with the legal profession that has been one of our constant priorities since the genesis of the Court.
In the tradition of last year’s event, the seminar will be followed by three additional days reserved for practical training. Similar to last year, substantive and practical information and training will be provided during the course of the three days.
The Seventh Seminar of Counsel is scheduled for the 11th to the 12th of May 2009, with the 13th to the 15th reserved for the training program. The Seminar will be held in The Hague at the World Forum | “Amazon” Room and the training will take place in the Court’s premises.
Aside from providing an update on defence and victims issues, this year’s seminar will provide an opportunity for the Court to discuss and consult the legal profession on the ICC’s Legal Aid Reports (2009) outlining the criteria and assessment of indigence employed at the Court and the scheme for legal aid for victims, as well as disclosure issues in ICC proceedings and the issues of “Intermediaries.”
The training will this year focus on procedural and practical issues facing counsel representing the defence or victims before the Court and participants will be divided into smaller groups offering opportunities for more effective interaction and learning.
In addition to representatives of, inter alia, international legal associations, non-governmental organizations and ad hoc tribunals, the seminar will once again be targeted towards a most important constituency – members of the Court’s List of Counsel, created and maintained by the Registrar in accordance with Rule 21, sub-rule 2 of the Rules of Procedure and Evidence. At this juncture, the List of Counsel consists of more than 270 lawyers from all corners of the globe.
